Default Setting your Time Zone

If you want to make your VPS time match your localtime (or any other timezone for that matter) first you need to find your timezone file.

Code:
tzselect
After following the prompts, it should tell you the name of your timezone, in my case 'Australia/Melbourne'. The timezone files match the names and are stored in '/usr/share/zoneinfo', so the my timezone file is '/usr/share/zoneinfo/Australia/Melbourne'.

To set this as the system wide timezone:

Code:
cp /usr/share/zoneinfo/Australia/Melbourne /etc/localtime
Obviously changing 'Australia/Melbourne' for your desired timezone.

The change is immediate to new processes, however existing processes may retain the old timezone setting .. so you may have to restart them to finish the job.

A Simple tip, but I hope it helps someone nonetheless.

Cheers,
Dave
