Default A couple questions...

I am interested in purchasing a Solid Host VPS. I am looking at the Starter package.
I have a few questions though, as I have not used a VPS before...
1) Do I have to do anything to "secure" my vps? Do I have to install firewalls or virus scanners?
2) Does solid host offer an FTP Backup solution, so I can write a SSH script or a cron job to backup all the important files (mainly Plesk stuff)? My clients are responsible for backing up their files and SQL databases, but I am responsible for backing up Plesk files, etc.

Thanks,

Thank you for your questions.

1) That's entirely up to you, but I do recommend to do so. We provide a number of application templates (antivirus, firewall, and many other applications) that we can install for you, per your request. So there isn't too much to it. Furthermore we are currently developing a security package which can be applied to all (linux) VPS's once it's ready. This will be available for free to new clients and existing clients.

2) Yes, this is available at $0.50 per GB and comes in increments of 10GB. This backup solution can be combined with a VPS, but can also be used for any other backup purpose.

If you have any further questions please let us know.

Thanks for the fast reply,
About answer number 1, is there a fee associated with this or is this free?

Also, will you provide me with nameservers to use and the option to create my own, or do I have to create my own?
Thanks,

Hi Alex,

No, those installations are free of charge.

You will have to setup your own nameservers, which is rather easy. If you face any problems while creating them, please contact our support department and we'll assist you right away.

If you have any further questions, please ask without any hesitation.

Regards,
