Memory usage on Windows VPS

my windows starter vps runs idle at 89% of it's memory capacity. i'm hosting a vbulletin forum and i'm getting memory error messages now and then. Is 256MB not enough to run a low visited forum ??

Hi Rubke,

Memory usage doesn't primarily depend on the activity of the VPS, it's more about the applications/services that are running on it. Each application uses a certain amount of RAM, whether it's active or not.

With 256mb RAM it's certainly possible to run a vBulletin forum on a Windows VPS, but it really depends on what you run apart from that. For example if you run MSSQL, MySQL, Spamassassin, etc, 256mb might be on the low side.

To optimize the ram usage for your needs, you may feel free to open a support ticket with us and we'd be happy to take a look for you to see what can be done.

ok, an engineer has disbabled some services
but i'm still forced to reboot the vps everyday because it's memory use is still growing to 95%-99%. I adjusted the connection pool timeout for asp -> mysql connections to drop after 60seconds. Are there other ways to discover what service is using the memory ? plesk doesn't provide this info...

You can see this in the task manager.

Again, I would recommend to open a support ticket, then our staff can take a look at this for you and give advice based on that.

i can't rdp if the memory is to low.. however, i must still reboot every day.. is it possible to test (for a week/month) if 384MB is working better ?

We can temporary upgrade your RAM for a few days to see whether that helps.

However, did you open a ticket with support yet?

i just did.. and the answer was "I have checked memory utilization on your windows. Most of the RAM is getting utilized by www and apache service and not by any wrong service.
You will have to upgrade your windows vps so that your vps will have more RAM assigned."

so if the vps could run with 384MB for some days, i can test it

The VPS feature list includes Plesk Control Panel and Virtuozzo Power Panel. The order form also includes another option, Plesk Power Pack.You don't see a reference to the latter, until you go to the orfer form. What is the difference between these three items, or where on your website can I get detailed info about them?Please discuss in detail?.
